Photography has always been a part of Elayne’s life. She began in the school classroom, taking her our own photos and developing them.
Elayne’s first camera was given to her by her parents at the age of 16. In her early 20’s, Elayne had a part time job taking photos of people in restaurants with Stardust Photos. Elayne wasn’t always behind the camera, as when she was younger she was often in front of them.
Elayne upgraded to a digital point and shoot when digital become available. A camera was never far away from her back in those days, particularly when she was travelling for both work and privately.
Her husband was the major instigator in upgrading Elayne to SLR cameras. Fifteen years ago he started giving Elayne his ‘hand me downs’.
On becoming a member at Caboolture Photography Club, Elayne joined in on all the activities and club competitions. She enjoyed a variety of genres although creative photography is what really interested her.
Most of her early work was only taken with a single flash. It was around 2019 when she bought a second hand lighting kit. This opened up so much more opportunity, and of course she fell in love with experimenting with light. Elayne is self taught and drives her husband, Peter, crazy when she gets an idea. He often says ‘Have you worked out your lighting?’ Her usual answer is ‘Not yet, I am working on it!’ That’s the fun part for Elayne when taking creative images - it is all a big experiment.
Elayne prefers to focus on projects with a view to building a body of work and this seems to be never ending.
Some of her projects include:
  • Faceless Series
  • Creative Rim Lighting
  • Creative Refraction
  • Splash Photography
Elayne’s other passion is Street Photography.
There are quite a lot of similarities between both of her passions. In contrast to her controlled studio lit work, the challenge in Street Photography is using the available light and trying to capture that precise or quirky moment!
Some of Elayne’s images are shown below (all images are supplied and taken by Elayne, who also owns the copyright on each).
